Nick Steiner
Nick runs a charity that ‘Grows Food for Those in Need’ by converting under-utilised spaces into urban farms. The food grown on the farms is donated to local charities such as Meals on Wheels at no cost, to create meals for those in need. Nick took his passion for gardening and giving back to the community by developing his first ‘farm’ in his own backyard. Now, the charity has a functioning model in Samford, Queensland at Millen Farm, where a half-acre provides up to 50kg of free vegetables each week to Meals on Wheels. The organisation is also planning other farms at Loganlea State High School, Wamuran, and Coolum. With the goal of resolving food insecurity caused by climate change, one of the farms’ many positive social impacts includes volunteer opportunities for students who can learn onsite and participate in climate smart initiatives at each farm. The grant will support Nick continues the growth of the Mini Project farm project.
